Station and Network Status
January 3, 2008 - St. George Outage
The St. George station is currently experiencing a communications outage but should be back online within the next few days. Data is being collected onsite and should be filled in once the problem is resolved.October 5, 2007 - Duckwater Update
The Duckwater station has been updated. An erroneous gamma radiation sensor multiplier was updated and data for the past two weeks will be corrected to reflect the proper multiplier. Several erroneous values due to instrument resets on Sept. 19 were also corrected. The resets occurred while a new display panel was being installed.September 18, 2007 - Duckwater Upgrade
The Duckwater station is currently being upgraded and should be back online in a few days.August 30, 2007 - Rachel Communications
The Rachel station is currently using backup communications to transmit data. The station is collecting data normally and data will be updated on the web on an irregular time schedule until the middle of next week, which is when we hope to restore regular communications.August 9, 2007 - Satellite Communications Restored
Satellite communications have been restored and data for stations that they serve is now reporting normally. Missing data for these stations for the period August 1-8 has been manually downloaded and will be loaded into the web site soon.A faulty pressurized ion chamber was replaced at the Nyala site on the morning of August 9th 2007.
August 7, 2007 - Milford Gross Alpha and Beta Results
Analyses of gross alpha and beta activity on filter samples obtained from the CEMP station in Milford, Utah for the period July 2-9 show alpha and beta radioactivity that is consistent with normal background levels. Download Test America's analytical report. Download a summary of the results, which have been converted to pico-curies per cubic meter for comparison to analytical results from filter analyses for Milford filters from calendar year 2006 and the first quarter of 2007.August 7, 2007 - Satellite Communications Outage
All satellite communications are currently unavailable. This affects communications with stations at Garden Valley, Medlin's Ranch, Nyala, Stone Cabin, Tecopa/Shoshone, and Twin Springs. Our access to the ground-based facility that collects the data from the satellite is currently experiencing outages. This does not affect the actual CEMP stations: they are still collecting data that will be posted here online when the communications facility has restored access.UPDATE: Satellite communications have been restored as of August 9, 2007.
August 3, 2007 - Station Data Down
The morning of August 3, 2007 all CEMP stations were not updating on the website. The problem has been resolved and all stations are operating again. However, satellite communications are still unavailable.July 18, 2007 - Milford calibration
A calibration check was performed at the Milford station around 11 A.M. which caused a 'spike' in the gamma radiation readings. This 'spike' will be removed by our QA process within the next few days.July 16, 2007 - Milford gamma readings
Recent elevated gamma readings at the Milford station are believed to have been caused by naturally-occurring radionuclides released as a result of wildfires burning in the Milford area during the past week and a half. Analysis of the gamma spectra of particulates on the air filter samples collected from the station for the periods July 2-9 and July 9-13 is currently being undertaken by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Report of Analysis: Milford and Delta, UT Air Filter Samples.DRI is also checking other possible explanations for the higher PIC readings, including whether the PIC was operating properly. The pressurized ion chamber (PIC) at the Milford station was replaced on the afternoon of Saturday, July 14 so that diagnostic tests could be run to ensure that the PIC installed during the fires was operating normally. The new PIC is currently reading approximately 3 micro-R/hr lower than the original PIC. This is within the normal range of variation between these instruments, and does not indicate an actual change in background gamma radiation at the site. A re-calibration of the way in which the station datalogger sees the voltage output from the PIC will occur shortly so that readings are comparable to historical data.
